As a student I have to revise for (and pass) 5/6 exams a year to continue with my Uni career. Currently I'm studying for my 'Gender and Creativity' module, I've chosen to write two essays, several Carol Ann Duffy poem's, two films (Brokeback Mountain and My Own Private Idaho) and a play, Sam Shepard's Fool For Love.
As it stands my exam in on Monday, (which we were only told about last Sunday) and my brain is ready to melt. Absolutely clueless about Carol Ann Duffy's poems and the amount of notes I have can actually fit onto two A4 pages. The themes we were 'learning' about in class boil down to, politics and time. STRANGE as this section in the module is about 'Queer theory' and the sexuality issues raised in her poetry.
As far as I can tell from the selected poetry, the only politics are about the Iraq war and the place where time is mentioned is mentioned is when she talks about her childhood. I'm pretty sure she didn't even know what a lesbian was until she started secondary school - Or was that just me? And from reading her poetry all she talks about is love and the destructiveness of it, the poems we covered in class were all 'lovey-dovey' and didn't cover how difficult it was to come out or deal with society.
As Winnie-The-Pooh would say... Oh bother!
So here I am, a thoroughly confused English student who's hopes of passing were royally dashed when even Sparknotes couldn't help. Seems my only hope now might be to develop my other skills in life... Which all revolve around reading and reviews. Life has taken an interesting turn, and by turn I mean down-turn.
Help :(
