Dear Readers,
I'm based here in good old Northern Ireland and recently a story about an aging TV personality who was 'let-go' was all over the news. He had a long and successful career stretching over 40 years, he was on radio, TV and on stage. Now he is complaining that he was sacked for being 'too old' and as he's in his 70's he had a long and fruitful career.
As I sit here and watch him on BBC news my blood is boiling! I am absolutely livid. I have sat for months, even years looking for a job in this particular industry and it's people like him that are making it so difficult for me! I have been pro-active in my writing, searching for work and polishing my skills. No-one wants to take me on due to 'lack of experience' and how does one go about getting experience when NO-ONE will give you a chance?!
I understand that he didn't want to leave his job and that he has his own issues going on however, as I've a fiver to my name and he's probably loaded, I feel no sympathy for his cause. I am trying to make my way in this world, have done everything right education wise and yet I'm still a waitress working for less than minimum wage serving people who frequently ask me how to spell 'Cafe'. I kid you not.
Move over grannies let the young have a chance!
