Hey guys,
have to say I'm a big fan of Cecelia Ahern, I read and blog about her novels quite a lot.
With her being one of Ireland's most prominent writers, we have to support our own right?! Right.
Anyway, Love, Rosie, spans over 45 years and is told through instant messager, letters, greeting cards and texts. It's about two best friends, Rosie Dunne and Alex Stewart who are separated at secondary school and how fate keeps intervening in their lives.
Alex's father is offered a job in Boston, his whole family is uprooted and moved across the Atlantic. This is of course, devestating for the two young friends but the two manage to keep their deeply rooted friendship steady.
It seems the two are to be reunited with Rosie being accepted into a University in Boston but the start of many twists happens and it works out that Rosie cannot move.
The novel is basically about your average woman who is trying to make ends meet through various different jobs and yet never truly fulfilling her dream until later on in life.
Alex on the other hand, is a high flying doctor in America and going from strength to strength in his career.
With many twists, failed marriages, trials, visits across the Atlantic, misunderstandings and masssive LOLs, it's interesting to see a relationship played out exactly as it is without being cheesy and unrealistic.
This is a mature novel, as it spans over a lifetime and shows real struggles of a woman hit by recession and bad luck. It's an interesting and quite a clean read, no sex scenes here.
I wasn't too impressed by the ending, if I'm honest, felt like it lacked something, bit anti-climatic. Yeah I know it's a more realistic novel but a little bit more detail at the end would have been nice. It's a rom-com, a little bit of lovey crap is fine!! Novels are about escaping real-life after all!!
Haven't seen the film, but there's bound to be a big scene at the end! Fingers crossed anyway. ;)
