Hey guys,
as per the standard story of my life, I randomly buy books I like the look of then realise it's the middle/ end of a series.
*facepalm*
I just love doing things arse about face, hahaha.
Anywho, was in Coleraine at the weekend for my lovely boyfriend's birthday and we nipped into Easons for a nosey. Of course this meant I bought half the store including one novel not even released yet... Book nerd.
As we were down for the weekend, reading opportunities were slim but Scott knowing me so well by now, found times to otherwise amuse himself and let me get my nerd on.
'The Kill' is the fifth book in Jane Casey's series. It's a crime thriller novel (my fav) about DC Maeve Kerrigan and her partner DI Josh Derwent who take on the investigation, when a police officer is found dead in his car.
The case takes a horrible twist when a second policeman dies and then another...
The Met Police are under immense pressure to carry out their duties but are cracks beginning to show? The attacks on Police show how vulnerable some branches of the force and how corrupt others are...
Not only is Maeve's professional life falling about but her personal life starts to follow suit. Maeve lives with her 'perfect' boyfriend who she is terrified of disappointing and is always scared she's gonna be the one to mess it up.
I think you'd need to read the other books in the series to find out what this is about and to delve deeper into her relationship with her partner Derwent.
But it turns out and **spoiler alert**, it's him to messes it up after an incident with his police team. So not only is Maeve confused about her love life the dead ends in the case, rake up to an interesting finale.
As with most crime novels, there's loads of detail and a slower pace at the start but once things get going... Holy moly. It's good.
I am a sucker for a fast paced book! The ending is so well thought out and the culprit/s is rather shocking and unexpected.
The psychology behind the case, is fascinating and made my interest in human nature, so. much. stronger.
It's a yes from me! I've already priced the rest of the books on amazon and can't wait to get my paws on them! Haha..
Also gotta love that Jane Casey's from home turf, well Dublin but basically the same thing. And a fellow past English student, we've felt the same pain. Hahaha...
Hope you enjoy this book and please get in touch if you want to discuss it.
